Sunday 28: God alone knows what demons torture those who self-harm. Or perhaps they are in such emotional stasis they feel no pain. Anyway, it made me feel ill even attempting to cut my finger (as per article). Even sticking a pin in was a non-starter although I did manage to slightly break the skin. I will try and soak it purposely (daily baths have not dislodged it as yet).
BTW, the first phalange of the Saturn finger “represents the philosophical approach to life… but also sadness, grief, depression… and various emotional pains.”
Would never have guessed.
Why do some paintings look full of potential when they are half done, then terrible when completed? Two more got added to the recycling bin as they just did not work. And, while colour is hugely important, too much brightness does not work for me either. (That was the first binned piece.)
Re binned artwork: there is much more waste with watercolours. At least with oils and acrylics, the canvas can be scraped or cleaned sufficiently to become useful again. With them, sometimes a rubbished base can create a worthwhile new image. Watercolours though give no new life to the support.
Another thing I have noticed with my art MO, I need to draw the cartoons and line drawings. They seem to be a necessity, in contrast to the contemporary spiritual art ‘abstracts’. It’s almost as if I have been somewhere else, and they re-root me.
Have baked a cake using up the Baileys. Smells wonderful.

Boxing Day: Moses was a prophet and beloved of God, said Auda abu Tayi, in Lawrence of Arabia. For some reason it is one of my favourite quotes. Probably because I can empathise with poor old Moses being carroted with the Promised Land for 40-odd years in the desert - and then being denied it at the river’s edge, so to speak. Not that I have had a desert of a Christmas. I hasten to add!
