broken bliss

coming soonProfound thoughts as I get ready for bed invariably fly away with mundane concerns, even more so as I fall asleep very quickly. Not last night though. No tossing and turning, but it did take me a while to nod off. Temporary bliss.

I have long had a goal to own a small detached house in the middle of a small field. The key is to be near enough, but also far enough away from `other people´, though usually, if an issue is not resolved, it tends to resurrect in another form wherever one goes.

One erstwhile colleague had a beautiful home, surrounded by masses of land, ribboned by winding country lanes. With unfailing regularity, some oiks would dump rubbish in various corners, rather than find the council´s tip.

This particular gripe comes courtesy of a neighbour, who rang very early and then rang off.

There are not a lot of parking spaces in cul de sacs at the best of times. There are substantially less when one neighbour, who has a drive, hogs two places on the road with tactical parking, and another hires a massive skip, also eating up almost two spaces.

Walking round the block is out of the question when unloading the weekly shop, especially when it is sheeting down with rain so, when it is crowded, many of us park on an unused pavement (not the one I was referring to yesterday). Unused, unless that neighbour is doing some gardening. Highly unlikely in this dreadful weather.

As it was the only free spot on Saturday, and I was unloading, I left it there, planning to move it today (when spaces would be freed up). The neighbour who seems to unthinkingly annoy, like moving a front fence without my permission; like growing creeping plants that invade my front and back gardens; like moaning incessantly when my back garden fence was damaged, and so on, was the one who rang early.

Not best pleased at all. Even more to discover it was only to move a car from a garage to a parking spot - which presumably could have been done a little later.

It took the Wacom driver and software installation as well as sorting and re-registering credit cards to deflect attention from that bit of early morning indignation. And boy did it take hours with one of the credit cards. Some banks really do need a good kick up the rear.

On the plus side, I have now booked some fun stuff for the year´s end.

A recurring `profound thought´ is how humans are evolving, but not quite as one might hope. Txtspk, Wii and computer games, are all setting up future generations for Borg-like assimilation or, even worse, a new generation of semi automatons.

And no, I am not being flippant or funny. I really do believe cellular reprogramming will permanently change human characteristics in a foreseeable future.

Meanwhile, Liz Jones writes about her self-doubt and fear which, thankfully, I rarely feel. It certainly would never keep me awake, and never did even in the depths of the last recession. But she does add something which resonates - about being alone "Even members of my own family never phone to see how I am."

The elder NandD actually does, and checks the blog for details, so that is not true for me. But I frequently feel I am not alive to the others. If one has to do the instigating it just compounds the feeling of being surplus to their lives.
