Fri 3: Can we have lightning without thunder or rain? Because I am convinced that is what woke me at least three times during the night. Yet this morning, there is no sign of rain; the `pondī in the front garden is empty and the path and paving look totally dry. Itīs overcast, with a slight cool wind - but no rain.
Meanwhile, there is a distinct possibility the Shoebox Art Fair might have to be cancelled. If everyone who expressed interest registered, the only concern would be for a successful event. Yet, while there are many artists in the region, we still have spaces available.
Since this region is also not on any arts trails, for that reason alone, youīd think interested artists would rush to register without being constantly prodded. After all, this is a great and affordable way to promote and sell our art. The registration fee is quite low and the tourist season guarantees a good showing.
There is currently no Arts Development Officer in the region hence why I have been doing (unpaid - but awaiting small grant) what effectively comes under council remit. The registration fee does not come to me but to an artsī fund for more opportunities for artists. So as the expression goes a win:win situation.
Ultimately, though one can only present opportunities. If people choose not to take advantage, well… what can I do?
Should I post a negative? Why not? I have worked very hard to enable a showcase for local and non-local artists. Now it is up to others. Failure to follow up could even block arts grants in the future. After all, it is not much point moaning about lack of opportunity if, when an opportunity is freely given, it is ignored.
On a separate note: some people seem to be born with blinkered vision. It is best not to expend valuable energy on them, as they would presumably rather commit suicide than entertain balance in their arguments. Indeed the arrogance of their certainty is mindboggling. Yet even mystics allow doubt.
I find limited minds rather depressing.
PS Re bookkeeping: Because I am logging private expenditure as well, itīs shocking to discover quite what a spendthrift I am.
